Sam Wood is an artist living and working in London. He uses painting and drawing to deal with absence and voids depicting empty rooms and unpeopled spaces, abstracted compositions that play with figuration and try to get at the idea of something missing or about to happen. Since studying fine art at Central St Martin's he has shown his work in solo shows and as part of group exhibitions. He has been working closely with David Collins Studio for the last three years producing artworks for them in collaboration with writers, designers and other artists. Since the COVID 19 pandemic began, Sam has been producing his first series of large-scale paintings expanding the works on paper he has historically favoured. The new series is an elaboration of his interest in the missing parts of identities, as expressed in space and the environments human beings occupy, from depictions of the paradise garden to abstracted landscapes he seeks to explore how we view our identities when something is taken away.
