I utilise discarded materials often within my practice. When I first moved into my old studio, the last tenant left quite a few bits of wood which ended up sitting in my studio for a few weeks before I thought to repurpose them. I usually start by lightly tracing things in place, getting an idea of lines and shapes, then applying my base colour. Using a photo of the tube seat pattern from my commute, I used an image transferring technique to paste the patterns onto the wood. Using a mixture of acrylic paint, pen, oil bars, I created the figures on top.
I started this piece over and over quite a few times as I wasn’t happy with the outcome, so the process took longer than I imagined but the mistakes, resetting and patience required were a part of the journey.
